Steve Smith

Currently a consultant with the Dewey Square Group, Smith has a thirty year history working in the California political and governmental scene. Starting as a public interest lobbyist and doing advocacy for the Service Employees Union, Smith spent ten years running the political program for the California State Employees Association. After managing a variety of successful statewide initiative campaigns he ran statewide Democratic campaign efforts before working for then Lt. Governor Gray Davis. Working as the day-to-day manager in Davis's 1998 election, Smith went on to serve in the Davis Cabinet, initially as the Director of the Department of Industrial Relations and then as California's first Secretary of Labor. Since being with the Dewey Square Group, Smith has worked for a variety of clients on issues in both in the legislature and on the ballot.
