Paul Hefner

Paul Hefner is a Democratic political consultant with Sacramento-based Polka Consulting, which runs statewide and local ballot measure and candidate campaigns and advises Senate President Don Perata, along with other clients.

Hefner currently serves as spokesperson for the campaign for the Rebuild California Plan — Props. 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E on the November ballot. He joined Polka Consulting last year, when he oversaw press for the successful campaign to defeat the redistricting initiative Prop. 77.

He spent several years working in the California Legislature, where he served as press secretary and consultant for two Assembly Speakers and the Senate Majority Leader. Hefner also served as communications director for State Controller Steve Westly.

Hefner is a former newspaper reporter and editor. Before moving to Sacramento to cover state government and politics for the Los Angeles Daily News, his work for the paper included coverage of the Menendez brothers, the arrest of O.J. Simpson and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Hefner earned his bachelor's degree at Occidental College.
