Katie MerrillKatie Merrill is the founder and president of The Merrill Strategy Group, a California-based political consulting firm. Over the course of her 15-year career, Merrill has advised Democratic campaigns for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, statewide legislative candidates and initiative campaigns, Democratic organizations and public advocacy groups. She most recently served as a Senior Strategist for Phil Angelides's gubernatorial campaign in California. Merrill began her career as a grassroots organizer for Senator Boxer's groundbreaking U.S. Senate campaign in 1992. In 1996, she managed businesswoman Ellen Tauscher's campaign, winning a dramatic upset over a Republican incumbent in a swing district. Afterwards, she served as Congresswoman Tauscher's Chief of Staff on Capitol Hill, managing her Washington and California operations until 1999. Merrill returned to California to run the day-to-day statewide campaign as the state director for Bill Bradley for President and joined Kaufman Campaign Consultants, playing a key role in the successful No on 38/No on School Vouchers initiative campaign in California in 2000. Katie's political experience also includes representing the Democratic Leadership Council and the National Venture Capital Association in Silicon Valley and serving as a senior strategist for U. S. Senator Barbara Boxer's successful reelection effort in 2004. Merrill is a graduate of Amherst College and lives near Berkeley California. |
