1992 Redux -- Dianne and Barbara

April 17, 2010 @ 10:01 AM
Sherry Greenberg In the famous "year of the woman," 1992, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer were both elected to the United States Senate. They represented the first all female Senate delegation. Since that historic day, Washington State and Maine have followed California's lead -- electing Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, respectively.

Conventional wisdom is that the joint appearances by Feinstein and Boxer in 1992 provided the synergy that carrried both across the finish line.

Today, Senator Boxer's campaign announced that Team Dianne/Barbara would reunite for one more race, with Dianne Feinstein chairing Boxer's re-election campaign.

"Senator Boxer and I make a great team for California," said Senator Feinstein. "That's why I'm so proud to chair Senator Boxer's campaign. Barbara is a proven leader for California and our strong partnership is essential in creating jobs and turning our economy around."

Boxer is in the fight of her political career and the boost from California's most popular official -- Feinstein -- is sure to help.
