Two Peas, Same Liberal Pod????

The so-called National Organization for Marriage claims to have gone up on the air in California with an ad designed to take down Republican Senatorial frontrunner Tom Campbell.  The ad alleges that Campbell and Boxer both support increased income taxes, increased gas taxes and gay marriage.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEpbNqqnIro&feature=player_embedded
 
The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) states on its website that it is a nonprofit organization with a mission to protect marriage and the faith communities that sustain it. I can't quite figure out what income and gas taxes have to do with this mission.  I suppose that the point of including the seemingly disparate issues is to unite both fiscal and religious conservatives against Campbell. And, presumably the ancillary benefit is that it "reminds" the electorate that Boxer is a "liberal."
 
Yup, this is gonna be one heck of a long election cycle.
