Were David Vitter and Larry Craig too Busy?

September 02, 2008 @ 12:11 PM
The folks at Yes on 8 must have searched high and low to find a paragon of marital virtue to appear in their latest ad.  Clearly, they wanted a spokesman who epitomizes strong family values. I realize that in the Republican Party it is difficult to find such an icon. But, the Yes on 8 people found the perfect spokesman, one who is long known to support "traditional" marriage -- many of them, to increasingly younger women. While these qualifications could apply to any number of Republicans, the spokesman de jour is none other than Newt Gingrich.

Yes, please stop chortling. This is not a joke. Saturday Night Live has not yet resumed production for the 2008-2009 season. The Yes on 8 folks decided that Newt Gingrich, a man who left his first wife while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery and his second when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, is the best spokesman for defending "traditional" marriage. Now, to be fair, Newt has remained married for seven years to his third wife, a former Congressional staffer with whom he was carrying on while married to wife number two. And, most of the drivel he spews in support of 8 is standard issue right wing pabulum about "activist" judges. But, the fact remains that the Yes on 8 folks have a thrice-married, adulterer preaching to the California electorate about the need to defend "traditional" marriage. Republicans have such a highly developed sense of humor.
