Breaking News: It's Ackerman -- Finally -- In an Underwhelming Vote of "No Confidence"

December 04, 2006 @ 12:14 PM

After weeks of palace intrigue and intra-caucus hand-wringing, Senator Dick Ackerman (R-Irvine) has fended off a serious leadership challenge from Senator Jim Battin (R-La Quinta) and squeaked out a majority vote in Caucus today for his re-election as Senate Republican Leader, avoiding the same fate as George Plescia, the erstwhile Assembly Republican Leader, who, like Ackerman, has been criticized by his colleagues for "not being partisan enough."

It’s nice to see a little common sense prevail within the "Republican Legislature bizarre world" where, in stark contradiction to the overwhelming November election mandate and pretty much every public opinion poll, more partisanship, divisiveness, and obstructionism, not less, appears to be the order of the day.
