More Bad News for Valero's Dirty Energy Initiative: Poll on BP Oil Spill Shows Strong Support for Clean Energy

June 14, 2010 @ 12:07 PM
Steven Maviglio The chances of the Valero Dirty Energy initiative passing in California continue to decline every day the BP oil spill continues. A new poll for the League of Conservation Voters out today confirms that American's have had it with polluters like the oil companies behind the attempt to kill California's clean energy and clean air laws.

In the poll http://lcv-ftp.org/LCV/2000cew.pdf, voters say:

  • The oil spill is intensifying voters desire for clean energy investments and increased regulation on corporate polluters;
  • There's increased support for climate change and clean energy policies (like AB 32);
  • Clean energy policy will be a big issue in November's elections; and
  • Even with a focus on jobs (the likely tactic of Valero in the AB 32 fight), voters stick with wanting a clean environment and battling the efforts of oil companies.

Details on the study, which was done for the League of Conservation Voters by the Benenson Strategy Group, can be found here: http://www.politico.com/static/PPM130_jb.html.
