Fargo Faces Backlash As Her Desperate Mudslinging Campaign Continues

May 22, 2008 @ 7:51 AM

Mayor Heather Fargo said again yesterday that she refuses to speak out against the independent expenditure campaigns by one of her major supporters against rival candidate Kevin Johnson -- and it looks like at least some in the Sacramento media are calling her on the carpet. (Note to the Sacramento Bee -- this is what happens when you ask tough questions of both major candidates in the race instead of waging a jihad against one of them.)

In this extended interview with KCRA-TV, Fargo makes it clear she has no intention of telling the local Plumbers Union to drop their $100,000 independent campaign against Kevin Johnson. Civic leaders and community groups have blasted the campaign as racist. But Fargo, who is benefiting from the campaign, has refused to call off the dogs or express her displeasure.

Apparently the Mayor forgets that she lives in the most diverse city in America, where we don't tolerate racism.

The KCRA interview also touches on Fargo's boneheaded, politically motivated move to meddle in police business. Fargo only shrugs her shoulders when the reporter pins her down on the inappropriateness of her intervention.

Meanwhile, Johnson continues to run a positive campaign and continues to pick up key endorsements.

Mayor Fargo promised a "brass knuckles" campaign the day she kicked off her re-election. Her campaign techniques have been shameful and the execution sloppy. Her latest ploy looks like a sign of a candidate in trouble. We'll know in  a couple weeks whether her mudslinging will be enough to keep her in office for another four years.

Fargo=Bush, McCain, every slimebag GOPer

Posted by: sanchez96 on May 22, 2008

I seem to recall Bush refusing to repudiate the Swift Boat scumbags, McCain's refusing to distance himself from questionable efforts on his behalf. Fargo seems to be comfortable with a racist campaign being waged against her opponent, for her benefit, by a far-right GOP operative.

And she's being willfully obtuse (shocker) about this situation. Instead of calling Dave Gilliard and the Plumbers, why not issue a statement calling on them to stop? Because she benefits from this racism. Get a life Heather.

If we can't Trust him with our Daughters, How can we Trust him with our City?

Posted by: knobleblue on May 24, 2008

Can someone tell me what qualifications Kevin Johnson possesses for being mayor of California's capital?

Surely it isn't his 'revitalization' of Oak Park (here's a hint, just drive down there, it's not revitalized, guys - I should know, I live there). And don't give me the Starbucks example. Starbucks is the exception to the rule, not an example of his work. Seriously, take a look at this article in the Sacramento Bee which did an investigative report in 2007, back when Mr. Johnson's political aspirations were but stars in his eyes: http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/431260.html.

And it's surely not the content of his character. The investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against Kevin Johnson are now being overseen by federal agents. Mr. Johnson allegedly touched a student's breasts at his place of business. He is the one that brought his sexual misdeeds into the public sphere, not anyone else. And if you don't believe that these incidents took place, I ask you to read the police reports: http://media.sacbee.com/smedia/2008/04/15/21/Child_Abuse_Report.source.prod_affiliate.4.pdf and http://media.sacbee.com/smedia/2008/04/15/21/Phoenix_Police.source.prod_affiliate.4.pdf..

The 16 year old girl in the first allegation in Phoenix didn't go to the police on her own accord, she told her therapist who was a mandated reporter. And her therapist told the police.

As you probably already know, Leonard Padilla has been behind the unearthing of Kevin Johnson's acts of massively poor judgment and character, not Heather Fargo. But because Heather is the other main frontrunner in the race, you put the blame on her doorstep.

Lastly, racism is a horrendous and deeply ingrained problem that our country needs to explore to the core and remedy; not a convenient allegation in a political campaign. So please stop yourself the next time you're tempted to throw the word around.

Either you are on Richie Ross' payroll or like your precious Heather Fargo you are being willfully obtuse.

If you can't see the inherent racism in the mailers and website from which Ms. Fargo is benefitting, than you don't know what the word means. And spare us the excuse that Padilla unearthed this information and that Fargo's hand are clean. Ross and Fargo promised this sort of campaign prior to Johnson's entry into the race as a tactic to scare him off.

Fargo is a joke and her campaign is as dishonest and poorly run as this city is.
